Evelyn is a wonderful teacher. She has been teaching my children for three years, and my children have always enjoyed her lessons. Evelyn is kind, patient and inspiring, she tailors each kid’s talent, and helps them improve steadily. We recommend her wholeheartedly to anyone considering piano lessons.

Evelyn has been instructing my elementary age daughter for over a year now, and we could not be more pleased with her. She has a great attitude and is highly professional. My daughter is learning technical skills, building her confidence, and having fun all at the same time. I highly recommend Evelyn for beginners and younger learners.

Samantha has been taking piano lessons from Evelyn for about 4 years, and we’ve had an excellent experience throughout our time with her. Evelyn is a talented and bright teacher who is patient and helpful. Her teaching methodology is great, and she has kept my daughter engaged and interested in learning. Not only is she an incredibly talented and knowledgeable teacher, she is also one of the friendliest and most personable teachers we have ever had the pleasure of working with. They work on pieces that they both choose, which has made the lessons more enjoyable for my daughter. Overall, we are very happy with Evelyn as a teacher and would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a skilled and engaging piano teacher.

Our daughter has been taking lessons with Evelyn for the past two and a half years, starting virtually in April 2020. During that time, Evelyn sent notes after each lesson via email. Since switching to in-person lessons, Evelyn corrects and writes strategies in a notebook, which my daughter reads at home when she practices. These notes are extremely helpful and just one of the many reasons why we value Evelyn as an instructor. Another is her enthusiasm and love for the piano, which she uses to
motivate and inspire her students. Evelyn is also extremely thoughtful. She sent stickers in the mail to our daughter during the pandemic, and she has given special treats to her students for holidays/special events. We have treasured the last few years and will miss Evelyn when she leaves Ithaca!

I took weekly piano lessons with Dr. Lam while I was attending Pittsford Mendon High School, where she was and still is the accompanist for their choirs. Not only did I love taking lessons and learning from her, but Dr. Lam truly provided a well rounded piano curriculum for me based on her outstanding comprehension of music theory, history, and piano technique. I am a vocal primary who is now studying at Nazareth
College at their School of Music. She taught me that piano is an emotive art form that requires discipline, hard work, and dedication. Now that I am working toward becoming a professional musician in college, I can confidently say that Dr. Lam taught me how to use the keyboard with my voice to be a fully independent musician. I am forever thankful for all of the hard work she put into each and every lesson, and I am so grateful I know such a brilliant pianist.

Evelyn is a very patient and supportive piano teacher. I started as a beginner and learning from her was an absolute delight. Whenever I got stuck with a particular piece or exercise, she helped me find the best way to learn it that works for me.

Having spent two years under the study of Evelyn Lam, I think that her teaching style is very pleasant and efficient. She is very enthusiastic about piano and works to install that same enthusiasm and motivation in her students. Her instructions are very thorough and reasonable. Evelyn puts all of her heart into promoting student success and I was very fortunate to have worked with her when I had the opportunity.

My daughter has been studying piano with Dr. Lam since May 2021, and we could not be happier! In a relatively short amount of time, she has made tremendous progress on the instrument [and] enjoys playing the piano and looks forward to her lessons with anticipation each week. Dr. Lam’s teaching style is firm but clear, organized, and kind, and her approach is uniquely tailored to each student’s needs and rate of progression. The method books she has chosen for my daughter are challenging and fun and include repertoire selections from the classical canon as well as jazz and Disney favorites. Dr. Lam encourages the students to take careful notes during the lessons, but she also provides parents of young students with detailed lesson notes on request. The lesson notes are so helpful in providing direction for our practice sessions in between lessons, and we are truly so grateful for them! My daughter has had the opportunity to participate in three recitals with Dr. Lam, all of which have been a wonderful experience… Dr. Lam never misses an opportunity to go above and beyond for her students and genuinely cares about their development as musicians and people.

I am grateful for Evelyn for her dedication to working with my student in elevating her playing by insisting on technical ability as an important avenue to fully reaching the artistic heights of a particular composition. She is not afraid to ask for excellence with the understanding that it will bring my student closer to feeling confident and versatile on the keyboard. The privilege of having such an accomplished pianist as a mentor for my daughter is extraordinary. My daughter absolutely values the incredible instruction she receives and always looks forward to her lessons. Evelyn’s instruction has made her feel accomplished and confident. Beyond lesson time, Evelyn is warm, funny, and generous in her rapport with her students and their caregivers. Thank you for all you do, Dr. Lam!

Evelyn helped me reach my goal of passing piano proficiency my first semester of conservatory. Her teaching approach is direct and encouraging, customizing lessons to individual needs.

Evelyn taught piano to my daughter for about a year. Evelyn was extremely organized in her teaching approach and gave clear guidance as to what needed to be worked on. Evelyn was always pleasant and easy to work with. She is extremely talented. We very much enjoyed our time with her!

Evelyn began as [my child] Stella’s piano teacher through virtual learning. Right away, she showed energy, patience, and understanding. Evelyn is a very talented musician herself and she brought that talent and knowledge to the lessons. She kept the lessons interesting and fresh, allowing the students to master a piece and move on to another in a short time. In my experience with Dr. Lam, I can confidently say she is an excellent piano teacher.  She has a patient and rigorous teaching approach, making complex musical concepts easily understandable for her students. Dr. Lam has a solid foundation in music theory; this, as well as her passion for teaching, helps her guide her students through challenging pieces of music.
