Born in British Hong Kong, Dr. Evelyn Wing-Yan Lam began piano studies at seven. Before moving to the States, Dr. Lam won numerous prizes in the Hong Kong and other competitions while studying with Vivian Wai Cheng. In 2010, she toured as soloist with the Hong Kong Children Symphony Orchestra, performing the Yellow River Piano Concerto. In Hong Kong, she also performed Beethoven Piano Concerto No. 3 and Concerto No. 5 (“Emperor”) with the orchestra.

In 2009, Dr. Lam was admitted to the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY, where she earned the Bachelor of Music (’13), Master of Music (’15), and Doctor of Musical Arts (’22) in Piano Performance and Literature, under the mentorship of Natalya Antonova. In 2013, she was awarded Eastman’s Henry Cobos Endowed Piano Prize for exceptional achievement in piano study and performance. As a recipient of the graduate teaching assistantship at Eastman, Dr. Lam taught undergraduate piano classes (2013-2018) and served as the studio assistant to Natalya Antonova. Dr. Lam made her debut at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall in 2015, as a prize recipient in the American Protégé International Competition.

An active soloist, educator, and collaborative pianist, Dr. Lam gives outreach recitals in the community. Since 2013, Dr. Lam is the studio pianist for the Lauren Haley Studios in Houston, Texas, collaborating with and mentoring LHS young musicians. In 2016, Dr. Lam traveled to South Africa and Zimbabwe with the non-profit organization Music Inspire Africa, where she taught and performed at local churches, schools and orphanages. Dr. Lam taught as an intern at the Eastman Community Music School in Rochester, NY, from 2016-2022. Dr. Lam also taught as a piano instructor at the Opus Ithaca School in Ithaca, New York, from 2019-2023. In Fall 2022, she was an adjunct faculty as a collaborative pianist at SUNY Geneseo, as well as accompanist for the Pittsford Schools District in NY from 2018-2023.

Dr. Lam currently lives in the Hampton Roads area in Virginia, where her husband is stationed in the Air Force, Dr. Lam provides in-person and virtual lessons to students of all ages and levels. During her free time, Dr. Lam enjoys cake decorating as an alternative form of art.
